After 3 Years, RWBY Is Officially Returning For Volume 10

After three years of uncertainty, RWBY has officially announced that the series has been greenlit for Volume 10, which is currently in active development. The announcement comes directly from the series’ official account on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that the long wait is now over and the story is moving forward with renewed direction. The announcement was made at Viz Media’s Anime Expo 2026 panel on July 4, 2026, and is still overseeing the project as it expands its story.

RWBY Volumes 1 through 9 were originally animated by Rooster Teeth until the studio officially closed its doors in 2024. The next volume of the series will be developed at Sola Digital Arts, a studio known for works such as The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Volume 10 will reportedly modernize the franchise’s 3D CGI animation style.

RWBY started as an American animated web series created by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. It first launched in 2013 as an independently produced 3D CGI project with an anime-inspired style that was only available on the Rooster Teeth website before eventually expanding to YouTube and other streaming services. By early 2024, the franchise released nine complete volumes that total more than 100 episodes.

Following Volume 9’s conclusion in 2023, production on the series entered an indefinite hiatus as Rooster Teeth shut down due to sustained financial losses and declining subscription viability. However, the franchise was later acquired by Viz Media in mid-2024, granting the company distribution, licensing, and production rights over the series, saving it from immediate cancellation.

Even with its humble beginnings, RWBY grew to become a massive series with millions of fans around the world. The story centers on four young Huntresses-in-training, including Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, who together form the titular Team RWBY at Beacon Academy.

In this world, humanity survives in fortified kingdoms while monstrous creatures known as Grimm, who are drawn to negative emotional energy, threaten civilizations. The story starts out with lighthearted academy life before gradually expanding into a larger narrative with deeper conflicts involving powerful magical artifacts and forces that seek the collapse of civilization.
