One of Studio Ghibli’s most iconic architectural creations is Howl’s castle — an enchanted mechanical hodgepodge that serves as the wizard’s hideout and domestic sanctuary. Recently, Studio Ghibli’s official store re-released the perfect collectible for Howl’s Moving Castle lovers.
Donguri Sora‘s official Howl-inspired jewelry and accessory box recently returned to the shop’s online catalog. As a delightful tribute to Ghibli’s 2004 fantasy classic, an “intricately detailed diorama” of Howl’s home serves as the lid. The base, modeled to resemble stained glass, is hollow, allowing personal treasures such as rings, necklaces and earrings to be stored inside. Readers can check out the official images below.

The piece is part of a larger collection dedicated to several iconic Ghibli features. In an official promotional video showcased on the Donguri Republic YouTube channel, the castle appears alongside three other boxes modeled after famous scenes from My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Like the Howl-inspired box, these pieces also feature colorful stained-glass-style bases and stand no taller than 85 mm (3.3 inches).
Including tax, Ghibli’s Howl-inspired accessory box costs 2,530 yen (~US$15.61). Collectors should also note that each piece in the series comes in a box with a clear plastic front, allowing it to be displayed without being physically removed from the packaging.
Released only three years after Studio Ghibli’s ultimate box office champion, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle is based on Diana Wynne Jones’ popular fantasy novel of the same name.
Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the film is set in a world where wizards and witches exist, but are generally not allowed to practice magic unless in the service of the throne. The story begins when Sophie — a young woman with low self-confidence — meets the eponymous Howl, a handsome wizard with a questionable reputation.
Angered by Howl’s fondness for Sophie, an irate sorceress known as the Witch of the Wastes transforms Sophie into an old woman, forcing her to leave home. While serving as a ‘cleaning lady’ at Howl’s castle, Sophie learns that her magical protector is bound to an irritable fire demon named Calcifer who powers the odd structure from within.
After agreeing to help Calcifer sever their ties, Sophie also learns that Howl is burdened by a curse slowly turning him into a monster. Hailed as one of Ghibli’s most well-executed romance stories, Howl’s Moving Castle is extremely popular among anime fans worldwide. Notably, Netflix’s global streaming stats for 2023-2025 establish the film as Ghibli’s highest-viewed property, with Spirited Away coming in a close second.
At the time of writing, Donguri Sora does not offer overseas shipping. However, the shop’s products are often sold through international retailers such as Meccha Japan and Sugoi Mart. In the U.S., Ghibli merchandise can be purchased at popular retailers such as Hot Topic, Barnes & Noble, Box Lunch and Kinokuniya Books USA.
Last month, Donguri Republic also opened its first-ever U.S.-based pop-up store in Torrance, California. This location is scheduled to remain open until Dec. 31, 2026.
Depending on the viewer’s geographical location, Studio Ghibli’s film library is available to stream on Netflix or HBO Max.
