Tom & Jerry Gokko has officially left HBO Max in the United States. While the removal means the adorable anime-inspired spin on the iconic cat-and-mouse duo is no longer available through the streaming service, fans won’t have to look far to keep watching.
According to an announcement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Tom & Jerry Gokko was removed from HBO Max on June 30. Fortunately, Warner Bros. continues to make every episode available for free through the official WB Kids YouTube channel, where the series first launched internationally after spending nearly three years as a Japan-exclusive release.
Tom and Jerry Gokko Exits HBO Max, But U.S. Fans Can Still Stream It for Free
Originally produced by Warner Bros. Japan, Tom & Jerry Gokko premiered on Cartoon Network Japan in 2022 as the first Japanese-produced animated series based on the legendary cartoon franchise.
Animated by Fanworks alongside Studio Nanohoshi, the bite-sized shorts completely reinvent the familiar rivals with rounded, chibi-inspired designs and a much softer tone. While Tom still spends most episodes chasing Jerry, the slapstick violence that defined the original cartoons has largely been replaced by playful comedy and heartwarming interactions designed for younger viewers.
The series remained exclusive to Japanese television and streaming platforms for years before Warner Bros. announced its international rollout through the WB Kids YouTube channel in 2025.
Because the shorts feature little to no spoken dialogue, Tom & Jerry Gokko translated naturally for audiences around the world without requiring extensive dubbing or localization. The official international release also introduced English-language titles and promotional materials, making the series even more accessible to new viewers discovering it outside Japan.
The release marked an unusual chapter in the franchise’s nearly 85-year history. Although Tom & Jerry has enjoyed enormous popularity in Japan for decades, Tom & Jerry Gokko represented Warner Bros.’ first original Japanese adaptation of the classic property.
Rather than simply localizing existing cartoons, the studio embraced Japan’s kawaii character culture, transforming Tom, Jerry and Tuffy into softer, more expressive versions of themselves that quickly became the focus of exclusive merchandise, collaborations and promotional campaigns.
Although its departure from HBO Max may disappoint subscribers who preferred streaming the series on the platform, its removal does not mean the shorts are unavailable. Warner Bros. has continued to support the series through its official WB Kids YouTube channel, where every episode can still be streamed free of charge without a subscription. For fans who only recently discovered Tom & Jerry Gokko, YouTube now remains the easiest and only official way to watch the complete collection in the United States.
The removal also comes as Warner Bros. continues expanding its lineup of Japanese reinterpretations of classic animation properties. Following the success of Tom & Jerry Gokko, the company recently announced a similar kawaii makeover for the Looney Tunes cast, further signaling its commitment to introducing beloved Western cartoon icons to new generations through original productions created in Japan.
