At this point, Diablo 4 is a very different game than it was at launch. There have been countless updates to the game to fix everything from balance to loot, and we’re two expansions in as of this year. It seems like the future is bright for the game and the Diablo universe overall.
The Diablo series grew as a whole in 2026 as well. Diablo 2 got its own Warlock expansion, and Diablo Immortal has been getting steady content updates since launch, alongside new classes. It’s been a busy year for the series across multiple games. Now, you can give Diablo 4 a go thanks to a new Xbox promotion, but it’s only free for a week.
Xbox is including Diablo 4 in its “Xbox Free Play Days” promotion, which makes games free to play for a limited time. For Diablo 4, it’s from June 30 through July 7, which is a full week and longer than the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 timeline (which runs from July 2 to July 6). Note that this is under the “Free Play Days For All” banner, so you can play it even if you don’t have a Game Pass subscription.
Here are the full details of what you’ll have access to: “Play through the iconic campaign with any class, including the Warlock from the new Lord of Hatred expansion, up to level 30. Your arrival comes just in time for the Season of Death Awakening, launching June 30, bringing additional activities, new content, and the option to earn iconic Overwatch cosmetics through a FREE Reliquary for your character. To celebrate the new season, Diablo IV will be 40% off from June 30 through July 7. “
The base game is on sale for $29.99 during the promotion, and your progress carries over after the trial. There’s also the “Age of Hatred” Collection, which includes the base game, and the Vessel of Hatred/Lord of Hatred expansions. That goes for $69.99.
Three years on, the latest Diablo 4 expansion was met with overall positive reviews. It’s been a ride playing this game since launch, but it’s also evolved a lot, and there’s a ton to explore if you’re a first-time player. Plus, the quality-of-life enhancements that have been patched in will make your runs a lot more enjoyable.
Even though Diablo 4 is a few years old, it’s worth trying out, especially if you’re going in with no experience. There’ll be a lot of people online for multiplayer, so it’ll be easy to find games and world-map action as well.
