Every week, Netflix releases new movies and TV shows to keep you entertained, and every week, several slip through your fingers because you didn’t know they were available. We’ll try to draw your attention to the most exciting new releases so you don’t miss a thing.
Hamnet
Watch this almost-Best Picture winner
Okay, this one isn’t a TV show, but it’s so good that not highlighting it would do you a disservice. Hamnet is a 2025 movie written and directed by Chloé Zhao, and it’s fantastic. It’s the behind-the-scenes story of how William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) wrote his iconic play, Hamlet. We learn how Shakespeare and his wife Agnes (Jessie Buckley) fell in love, started a family, and then suffered an agonizing loss.
Hamnet is gracefully written, wonderfully performed, and directed with great sensitivity; Jessie Buckley won an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as Agnes. It’s terrific that one of the best movies of 2025 will now be able to be watched by so many people.

The Tick
Spoon!
The Tick began life as a comic book about a hulking, nigh-invulnerable superhero named the Tick, dedicated to safeguarding “the City” alongside his nervous sidekick, Arthur, an accountant-turned crime-fighter. No one knows where the Tick came from or how he got his powers, but he’s eccentric, overly dramatic, and seems to really enjoy his job.
Starring Patrick Warburton in the role he was born to play, the 2001 Tick TV show only lasted one season, but went on to become a cult classic. All nine episodes of this superhero parody series are available to watch on Netflix as of July 8. Later, on July 15, Netflix will get both seasons of the 2016 live-action Tick show starring Peter Serafinowicz as the Tick and Griffin Newman as Arthur Everest. So you’ll have as many iterations of this offbeat story as you can handle.

I’m Not Afraid
No Tengo Miedo
From Squid Game to Narcos to Money Heist, Netflix has a rich catalog of great international shows to watch, and it looks like the Mexican drama I’m Not Afraid could fit right in there with them.
I’m Not Afraid is set in 1986, when everyone is watching the World Cup. 10-year-old Miguel lives a quiet life in a rural village until one day he finds a boy named Felipe trapped at the bottom of a hidden hole. At first, Miguel believes Felipe may be a ghost, but eventually realizes that he’s been kidnapped and imprisoned. Miguel and his friends vow to free Felipe at great personal risk.
I’m Not Afraid looks like an intense series that explores what happens when the innocence of childhood crashes up against fully formed adult cruelty. You can watch all eight episodes now.
Little House on the Prairie
The beloved classic returns
This is definitely the biggest new arrival on Netflix this week. Little House on the Prairie is a new, big-budget adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic series of children’s books about a family that moves from their farm in Wisconsin to a log house in Kansas in 1869. At that time, they were moving to the frontier, where they dealt with illness, the difficulties of starting up a new farm, and land disputes with Native Americans and the U.S. government. Despite the challenges, the books have a warm, family-friendly tone, something this new show fully intends to channel.
“Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier,” reads the official Netflix logline.
Whether you’re a fan of the books, a fan of the 1970s TV show, or brand-new to the series, Little House on the Prairie may well be worth checking out, especially if you have kids. You can watch all eight episodes from the first season of Little House on the Prairie right now. A second season has already been ordered and should air in 2027.

Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea
Coming July 10
On January 13, 2012, the luxury cruise liner Costa Concordia struck a rock in the Tyrrhenian Sea, tearing open a gash in the port side of the hull. Water flooded parts of the engine room, forcing an evacuation. Before it was over, 32 people were dead.
Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea offers new eyewitness accounts of the deadliest cruise ship disaster in modern history, as actual passengers and crew members recall their experiences. It could be a worthwhile new addition to all the great documentaries on Netflix.
