Bumblebee is once again one of the most iconic Autobots in the Transformers franchise, with the live-action movie series reviving his relevance after the days of Generation 1 had long passed. Now, one of his most recent cinematic designs is being given a dark reimagining that’s also based on an obscure G1 upgrade.
Threezero’s DLX Shattered Glass Goldbug is a corrupted version of the character’s appearance in the brand’s last live-action film. This non-transforming kit inverts his usual colors and comes loaded with several accessories and weapons, some of which pay homage to other toys for the character. Unfortunately, unlike the ubiquitous Bumblebee, Goldbug will be rather scarce, as it will only be sold through a select few venues.
Bumblebee’s Darkest Form Rises Again in New Transformers Model Kit
DLX Shattered Glass Goldbug is the new summer-exclusive model kit from Threezero, and it serves as a dark mirror image of a familiar Autobot as envisioned in the live-action Transformers movies. The design is based on Bumblebee from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, but with the Autobot’s colors inverted, making him predominantly matte black with metallic gold and blue accents. It not only pays tribute to Rise of the Beasts Bumblebee, but also the classic Generation 1 and Shattered Glass version of Goldbug.
Goldbug was Bumblebee’s upgraded form in the classic G1 universe, with the Shattered Glass universe being one where the Autobots are evil, and the Decepticons are heroic. Goldbug stands at about 8″ in height and has 60 points of articulation, allowing the kit to emulate many of the scenes from the movie. The same goes for the rear thrusters, which can be deployed or folded down.
Though he doesn’t transform, Goldbug does have his wheels visible in robot mode, with the soft tires even made from a rubber-like material. They even have weathered paint to match the battle-damaged aesthetic of the rest of the design, and when paired with the red LED lights, it creates a far more sinister silhouette than the normal Bumblebee ever could. A redeco of Threezero’s previous Bumblebee toy, the kits’ weapons include the classic Stinger Sword and a new convertible blaster that can be used either as a single cannon or three smaller firearms.
Not only can these be wielded by other Threezero Transformers model kits, but they’re also based on the design of the blaster for Transformers: Generations Shattered Glass Goldbug. Expected to become available for order later this month, the DLX Shattered Glass Goldbug will be sold only through ACGHK and ChinaJoy in very limited quantities.
