Magic: The Gathering isn’t done with the Marvel Comics universe, as more crossover content is on the way following the release of the Marvel Super Heroes set.
Not counting Secret Lairs, Magic: The Gathering has done two crossovers with Marvel: Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes. The first set was filled with Spider-Man content, while the second focused on The Avengers and The Fantastic Four, along with their associated villains, adding new mechanics and keywords that emulate the feeling of unleashing superheroes on the battlefield.
More Marvel Content Is Coming to Magic: The Gathering
While Wizards of the Coast already has a packed 2026 full of Magic: The Gathering crossovers, including The Hobbit and Star Trek. It seems that Magic: The Gathering will be returning to the world of capes and cowls, as Principal Designer Gavin Verhey recently revealed to CBR during an interview at the Magic: The Gathering Experience in London that more Marvel is coming to the game.
When asked about there being any characters who he wanted to include in the Marvel Super Heroes set, but couldn’t, Verhey said, “You know, there’s a lot of Marvel. There’s so much Marvel out there. It was impossible to get it all into one set. But we’re not done with Marvel yet. We wanted to save characters for later, too.”
The X-Men Will Likely Be the Focus of a Magic: The Gathering Set
Fans have speculated about future Marvel crossovers with Magic: The Gathering, especially as not all the Infinity Stones have appeared yet. The most likely candidate for a crossover set is one based on The X-Men and their associated teams, considering how few of them appeared in Marvel Super Heroes. The X-Men is one of Marvel’s biggest franchises, with enough heroes and villains to pack an entire set on their own.
Considering that 2026 has already seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Marvel Super Heroes crossover sets, and still has The Hobbit and Star Trek ones to come, any future planned Marvel crossover sets will likely be released in 2027. The 2026 Magic: The Gathering schedule is packed, so there’s no reason to rush another Marvel set out the door just yet.
Outside The X-Men, it’s unclear who else in the Marvel universe could fill a whole set, especially now that The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man are accounted for. Maybe there will be a supernatural or cosmic-themed set, and it will all culminate in a massive crossover, similar to the “Secret Wars” storyline from the comics, which is about as big a Marvel reference as Magic: The Gathering could make.
