Sailor Moon is officially returning to the big screen this summer. Fans will soon have another chance to experience Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live in theaters with a special four-day screening event beginning Aug. 1.
Via the official Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon website, it was announced that two filmed performances from the franchise’s 2025 The Super Live tour will be screened at Tokyo’s Togeki theater across four dates in August. The event will feature recordings of both the London performance by Team UK and the North American tour performed by Team US.
The limited theatrical event will take place on Aug. 1, 2, 5 and 6, with both the Team UK and Team US productions screening once per day. Exact screening times will be announced at a later date. Tickets are priced at ¥3,900 (approximately $24.21 USD) and will go on sale beginning July 3 at 9 p.m. JST on a first-come, first-served basis. Any remaining seats will be made available directly through the Togeki theater box office beginning July 4.
Sailor Moon Returns to Theaters This Summer for a Limited 4-Day Event
Originally developed for overseas audiences, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live reimagines Naoko Takeuchi’s iconic manga as a 2.5D stage musical, blending live performances, energetic choreography and elaborate costumes with many of the series’ most recognizable story moments and musical numbers. Rather than adapting the full narrative, the production delivers a fast-paced celebration of Sailor Moon‘s most iconic characters and battles. Like previous international productions, the 2025 performances were presented in Japanese with English subtitles, allowing audiences around the world to experience the show as originally performed.
The 2025 revival also marked the show’s largest international expansion yet. Team UK brought the production to London with Yui Yokoyama starring as Sailor Moon, while Team US toured 21 cities across North America, led by returning Sailor Moon actress Riko Tanaka. After completing their overseas performances, both casts reunited in Japan for a special homecoming run, giving domestic audiences the rare opportunity to compare the two productions. The August theatrical screenings will now preserve both performances on the big screen for fans who were unable to attend the live tour.
The theatrical screenings continue a busy stretch for the Sailor Moon franchise. Just days before the announcement, Naoko Takeuchi celebrated Usagi Tsukino and Chibiusa’s shared birthday with a new commemorative illustration while also unveiling the first key visual for an upcoming LINE FRIENDS collaboration, confirming a new Figuarts ZERO chouette Neo Queen Serenity figure and promoting new memberships for the official Pretty Guardians fan club.
Additional information regarding screening times and ticket sales will be announced in the coming weeks. For fans who missed the international tour, the August event offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Sailor Moon‘s most celebrated live productions on the big screen.
