LL Cool J‘s Sam Hanna is headed to his third NCIS series this fall. We already knew that Scott Caan, a procedural veteran from his time on Hawaii Five-0, will be joining him, but now we’ve got the full line-up for NCIS: New York. Leading the pack is an acclaimed actress who’s recently had experience with TV’s other long-running crime franchise.
According to reports, Jennifer Beals, who recently had a stint on the now-cancelled Law & Order: Organized Crime, will be joining the procedural when it debuts on CBS this fall. She’ll play Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells, who’ll supervise Hanna (who debuted on NCIS: Los Angeles and recurred on NCIS: Hawaiʻi after Los Angeles was cancelled) and Nick Schaeffer (Caan) in the New York NCIS field office. They’ll be joined by agents Addison “Addy” Ross (Jacqueline Byers, Dark Winds) and Wyatt Hill (Shane Harper, Power Book IV: Force), and tech specialist Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid, 13 Reasons Why).
Who Is Jennifer Beals?
A native of Chicago, Beals had a small role in the comedy My Bodyguard before rocketing to stardom as the lead in the Adrian Lyne smash hit Flashdance. Playing Alex, a steelworker by day and cabaret dancer by night who aspires to be a ballerina, Beals was the face of the film, which became the third-highest-grossing movie of 1983. Beals subsequently took a break from acting to continue her studies at Yale, and later starred in the films The Bride, Vampire’s Kiss, and Devil in a Blue Dress. She found success on the small screen in the 2000s, starring as Bette Porter on Showtime’s The L Word; it was the first TV series with a primarily lesbian cast of characters. It ran for six seasons, and returned, with Beals in tow, for a sequel series, The L Word: Generation Q, which ran for another three seasons. Recently, Beals had stints on The Book of Boba Fett and Law & Order: Organized Crime; she is set to star in the upcoming third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The NCIS: New York casting news comes amidst two high-profile returns to the franchise. Mark Harmon is set to star in a season-long story arc of NCIS: Origins as the present-day incarnation of Leroy Gibbs, while Michael Weatherley will return as Tony DiNozzo on the NCIS mothership following the cancellation of the spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
