The latest release to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pokémon involves the two best Eeveelutions in the franchise, as Espeon and Umbreon are in the spotlight as part of a huge collaboration.
In Pokémon Red & Blue, Eevee was the only Pokémon with multiple evolutions, being able to turn into Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon with the use of special stones. Game Freak decided to use Eevee as a way of showing off the new mechanics in Pokémon Gold & Silver, with two new Eeveelutions that used both the Friendship stat and the day/night cycle, resulting in the Psychic-type Espeon and the Dark-type Umbreon, whose amazing designs quickly made them fan favorites.

Espeon and Umbreon quickly earned a spot among the most beloved Pokémon in the franchise, as their designs are so sleek, especially compared to the Gen 1 Eeveelutions. This was helped by Gen 2’s lack of Dark-type Pokémon in Pokémon Gold & Silver, meaning lots of people had to use Umbreon if they wanted to use the new type in battle.
