The latest Pokémon Winds & Waves rumor is claiming that one of the most beloved Gen 1 Pokémon is receiving a regional variant in the Gen 10 games, marking the first new form it has received in the series’ history.
The original 151 Pokémon from Pokémon Red & Blue are some of the most iconic characters in video game history, and Game Freak has helped keep them relevant via new forms and evolutions. Pokémon like Charizard have received Mega Evolutions and Gigantamax forms to make them stronger. In contrast, creatures like Mr. Mime and Tauros received regional variants that change their type, making them better in competitive battles.
Psyduck Rumored To Receive Regional Variant/Evolutions In Pokémon Winds & Waves
The next Pokémon to receive a regional form may have leaked online. The Centro Leaks Twitter/X account is claiming that Psyduck will receive a regional form in Pokémon Winds & Waves, turning it into an Ice/Psychic-type Pokémon. The regular Psyduck from Kanto is a Psychic-type Pokémon, which means this shift is going to give it way more weaknesses, with Bug, Dark, Ghost, Rock, Fire, and Steel now dealing x2 damage to the poor duck.
It was also revealed that the regional Psyduck would be part of a three-stage evolution line, unlike regular Psyduck, which only evolves into Golduck. This could refer to the original plans for Psyduck in Pokémon Red & Green, as the leaked beta builds of the game featured a mid-stage evolution between Psyduck and Golduck.

Psyduck is one of the most beloved Pokémon in the franchise, mostly due to Misty’s Psyduck being a forgetful little guy who everyone adored, especially when he cut loose and unleashed his psionic powers on the enemy. In the games, Psyduck isn’t exactly a competitive beast, so this new version might make it a force to be reckoned with.
If the rumored Psyduck regional variant is real, then perhaps more Gen 1 Pokémon will receive new forms in Pokémon Winds & Waves. After all, Pokémon Winds & Waves is the tenth generation of Pokémon games, which is a huge milestone for the series, so maybe Game Freak is deciding to update creatures from the old days to please the retro fans.
