Adrian has been writing, critiquing, and thinking about games since he first picked up an N64 controller many years ago. These days he writes reviews, news, and features for Game Rant and believes games should be held to the same artistic standards as books, movies, and television shows. When he’s not writing for Game Rant, Adrian writes even more reviews for Sirus Gaming and likes to get nerdy about tech and retro games at HackerNoon. Outside the gaming world, he spends plenty of time enjoying movies or listening to every genre of music under the sun. Follow him on Twitter for nonsense tweets likely related to Dragon Ball Z, or check out Breadhouse Records for some tunes.
While Ubisoft is still staying quiet about what’s coming in the next Far Cry installment, a notable dataminer has recently leaked details about what the development team is planning for Far Cry 7, and the claims indicate a major departure from the formula for the series. Far Cry fans haven’t seen a new entry since 2021, marking the longest stretch without a new game for a franchise that had reliably maintained three to four-year development cycles.
On July 6, 2026, Ubisoft dataminer RogueTX took to Twitter to give a brief rundown of what fans can expect from Far Cry 7, which longtime fans may notice is a huge departure from the typical Far Cry game. A lot of these bullet points are the leaker doubling down on claims they made earlier this year and last year. According to RogueTx, the next game in the series will be a PvE/PvP extraction shooter in which players will have 72 hours to rescue their family members from the Sons of Truth, an enemy faction previously rumored to feature Cillian Murphy as Far Cry 7‘s headlining villain. Additionally, Rogue states that the game will feature safehouses and the always-controversial weapon durability mechanic. In a later post, the dataminer clarifies that Far Cry 7 will, in fact, feature a campaign along with the PvE mode. However, as with any leak, fans should take this information with a grain of salt.
