Among the classic Seekers in the Transformers franchise, it’s almost always Starscream who gets the spotlight compared to his compatriots. Thankfully, an upcoming collector offers an expected repaint and puts the spotlight on a Decepticon jet of a much darker color.
Kuro Kara Kuri Skywarp is a new kit from Flame Toys, with it obviously being a redeco of the company’s stylized rendition of Starscream. Featuring extensive detail and articulation, the toy references different incarnations of the Seekers from various Transformers continuities. There’s even a special pre-order bonus for those who purchase it through the Flame Toys official store, with this homaging another Hasbro franchise entirely.
Skywarp Teleports Into the Flame Toys Transformers Kit Lineup
Like Starscream before him, Kuro Kara Kuri Skywarp has a very stylized appearance, with the result being a sort of version of Generation 1 Skywarp filtered through an anime aesthetic. This makes him more lithe and articulated than in most designs, all while retaining the proportions of a classic-style robot in disguise.
Featuring a zinc alloy die-cast internal frame, the non-transforming kit figure has around 40 points of articulation and stands at over eight inches in height. Internal LEDs illuminate the head, chest and cockpit, giving the teleporting Decepticon an even fiercer presence on the battlefield and in fans’ collections. The basic accessories include four interchangeable faceplates and six pairs of hands, along with various pieces of modular armor and alternate wings.
The Seeker boasts his classic Null-Ray cannons that can go on the sides of his arms or be held like guns in his hands. His arms can be further bolstered with armor that extends energon swords, with these blades based on Starscream’s appearance in the anime Transformers: Cybertron. His shoulder cannons have similar functionality, with this feature based on Starscream’s design in Transformers: Armada (with the toy for that version eventually repainted into figures based on Thundercracker, Skywarp, Ramjet and others).
Retailing for US$400 and set to be released in March 2027, it can be pre-ordered now through the Flame Toys website or sites such as D4 Toys (where it’s purchasable for US$325). Those who order now from Flame Toys will also get a small figure based on Rock ‘n Roll, who was a member of G.I. Joe and Skywarp’s human ally in the IDW Publishing Transformers comic books.
Ever since the days of Generation 1, Skywarp has almost always been a repaint of Starscream, recasting his colors in gray, black and purple. His name comes from his classic ability to teleport in battle, with this special ability being far more well-known than the gimmicks that the other original Seekers were supposed to have when they were introduced back in 1984.
In 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie, which is now 40 years old, Skywarp was one of many Decepticons who sustained mortal injuries in the battle of Autobot City, but his body was subsequently used by the Chaos Bringer Unicron to create the new Decepticon jet, Cyclonus.
