As one of the premier Sanrio mascots, the adorable Cinnamoroll might have actually eclipsed Hello Kitty herself in terms of popularity. Now, this stardom is part of a balanced meal, and the fast food that the character is collaborating with isn’t the only thing that will make consumers happy.
McDonald’s Japan has revealed a new Happy Meal toy series, with these focused on Cinamoroll’s wacky world. Solely featuring the floppy-eared dog, these toys cast the character in a cafe-themed setting. Running throughout the rest of the month, this series of toys is serving up fun alongside food, adding a side of kawaii to dip nuggets into.
Sanrio’s Cinnamoroll Gets the Spotlight for New McDonald’s Happy Meal Toy Collectibles
Aimed at younger children, the new Sanrio toy series that comes with Happy Meals at McDonald’s Japan eschews a wide array of the company’s cute mascots. Instead, Cinnamoroll is in the spotlight, and given the fast-food nature of the collaboration, it makes sense that these collectibles are also based on an eatery.
Six toys will be released altogether, with these Happy Meal add-ons being released in three different “waves.” The first of these begins on July 10, and will include the Cinnamoroll Shop Box (resembling a small café), the Cinnamoroll Magical Oven to let Sanrio fans ‘cook’ the baked goods of their dreams, and the Cinnamoroll Mascot — a clippable Cinnamoroll head that also has McDonald’s branding.
One week later, on July 17, fans can look forward to getting the Cinnamoroll Cash Register (perfect for racking up dough through transactions), the Cinnamoroll Mogu Mogu Kitchen Car (which lets kids get a taste of a Sanrio food truck) and the Cinnamoroll Drink Machine Sticker Stand (which even includes collectible stickers that jut from the side).
For those who miss out on any of these collectibles, they can try their luck again on July 24. During this third wave, those who purchase a Happy Meal will get one random toy that comes from either of the preceding two waves. There’s even going to be a special McDonald’s app mini-game titled Cinnamoroll Friend’s Happy March Match, with this cementing that the event is all about the character.
Unfortunately, the new toys are currently limited to McDonald’s Japan, although there will be a scant few select locations that will not offer the toys. Cinnamoroll’s popularity has only increased in the past decade, and he’s quickly gone on to become one of the most popular Sanrio mascots of them all.
This success saw him score incredibly well in the recent Sanrio character ranking contest, to the point where he and others are vastly outperforming the more notable Hello Kitty. He’s also easily the most popular of the male Sanrio mascot characters such as Pochacco and Pompompurin, to the point where he’s almost always in the group alongside Hello Kitty, Kuromi and My Melody.
