As recently confirmed by Collider, GKIDS is officially bringing Your Name back to the big screen on August 14 with a new 4K remaster. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its historic debut, the theatrical run will feature both the original Japanese audio and the English dub. While the exact list of theater locations is still being worked out, screenings across North America and Japan are mostly locked in.
Back in 2016, Your Name pulled off something that almost felt impossible at the time. For decades, Studio Ghibli had basically owned the blockbuster anime movie space, with very few films outside the studio even coming close to its box office records. Then Your Name arrived and changed that. It became the first original, non-Miyazaki anime film to truly take over the global box office, showing that an original anime movie could become a worldwide event without the Ghibli name behind it.
