Despite audiences knowing for nearly two years that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios has kept the character’s appearance a mystery. Besides a brief look at the back of his cloak in the post-credit scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, audiences have not gotten an official look at Doctor Doom. Yet that hasn’t stopped merchandise from showcasing the villain’s design, with the first look of the character debuting on a Disney Merchandise banner at a 2025 event in Shanghai, China.

Now the promotional tie-in material ahead of Avengers: Doomsday‘s release has offered the best look at Doctor Doom. Menkind, a UK-based gift shop, shared the “Marvel Avengers Doomsday 12 Days Socks Advent Calendar,” which features the same Doctor Doom design used on the Disney Merchandise Banner and at Disney’s CinemaCon presentation. The site confirms it is an “officially licensed Marvel Avengers product.” This means the Doctor Doom featured on the case is, in fact, the design from Avengers: Doomsday. See the image below:

Due to the nature of licensing deals, images for a movie can often be spoiled by toys and media tie-ins. The Spider-Man: Brand New Day LEGO set revealed a first look at characters like The Hulk and Tombstone. With Avengers: Doomsday merchandise making its way online, it is only a matter of time before Marvel Studios releases a new trailer for the film and offers audiences the first official look at Doctor Doom in action.

When Disney did not release a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer online after CinemaCon, the natural assumption was that it would debut before The Mandalorian and Grogu. Now it seems that Marvel Studios is saving a potential trailer drop for Jul. 25, 2026, at San Diego Comic-Con during the studio’s Hall H presentation. This would allow the trailer to play before screenings of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opens in theaters six days later and is the final MCU film before Avengers: Doomsday.

Even with Doctor Doom’s design revealed online through merchandise leaks, the decision not to officially showcase the character in the first four teasers shows restraint. It is certainly creating anticipation for the trailer and Avengers: Doomsday as a whole. After multiple disappointing cinematic interpretations of Doctor Doom, the MCU certainly has the look down perfectly.
