Pokémon Winds & Waves Legendaries Already Leaked Online

Every Pokémon fan is excited for Pokémon Winds and Waves, with the Generation 10 games looking like a return to form after many divisive outings from the franchise. And while official news about the new Pokémon being introduced in the Switch 2 exclusive titles is still sparse, apart from the Starter trio of Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, a new leak has just revealed the games’ box art Legendaries.

Every new generation of Pokémon introduces a plethora of new Legendary creatures, but only two or three ever get the distinction of gracing the box art of the mainline games, and being central to the games’ narrative. Now, fans have their first look as the Legendary Pokémon who will be gracing the covers of Winds and Waves.

Pokémon Winds and Waves Are Represented by a Garuda and a Mermaid

Noted leaker @Light_88_ has posted to X a leak that every Pokémon fan needs to see. According to the avid Pokémon lover and content creator, the box art Legendaries of Generation X will be inspired by two mythological creatures: a Garuda and a Naga-like mermaid. Specifically, the Gardua Pokémon will be the mascot of Pokémon Winds, while the mermaid Pokémon will be inspired by Pokémon Waves.

If the leak is true, this would be the first time since Generation VII that the box art Legendaries have their own distinct designs and themes, rather than being variants of one another. Much as some fans may love Zacian and Zamazenta or Koraidon and Miraidon, others definitely long for the days of Groudon and Kyogre or Dialga and Palkia.

A winged creature and the mascot of Pokémon Winds, the Garuda Legendary would almost certainly be a Flying-type. Likewise, the mermaid Legendary serving as the mascot of Pokémon Waves should obviously be a Water-type.

Given the relationship between Garuda and Naga in Indian mythology, Pokémon Winds and Waves also look to be offering the first conflict between box art Legendaries since Black and White. The Garuda and Naga are famous enemies, with the former commanding the skies, the latter commanding the underworld, and their feud never-ending.

Based on this background, it’s also possible to speculate on what the pair’s secondary typings might be. With the Gardua triumphantly defending the world from evil beings, it would make sense as a Fairy-type. By contrast, the malicious Naga would naturally suit the role of a Dark-type.

Whether these Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks are real will only be revealed when more trailers for the games come out. However, fans of @Light_88_ certainly appear to be behind the concepts, and the way they look to be taking things back to the old style of box art Legendaries reflects exactly what games hope these new titles will be.
