The Wait Is Over As Solo Leveling Returns This August With Next Big Release

Solo Leveling fans may still be waiting for the return of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, but August is bringing a major release that celebrates the franchise’s incredible rise. Rather than a new chapter, the next big milestone is The Art of Solo Leveling, an official art book packed with exclusive illustrations, production materials, and creator commentary that has never been published before.

The announcement via @aladinbook on X gives fans something meaningful to look forward to during the manhwa sequel’s hiatus. More importantly, it shines a spotlight on the creative talent responsible for turning Sung Jinwoo into one of the most recognizable protagonists in modern anime and manhwa. For longtime readers, the collection serves as both a celebration of the series’ legacy and a closer look at how its unforgettable visuals came to life.

A New Solo Leveling Release Arrives in August

The Art of Solo Leveling book D&C Media

D&C Media and Aladin Books officially revealed The Art of Solo Leveling on July 13, confirming that the companion book will launch during the first week of August 2026. The collection covers artwork from all 179 episodes of the original webtoon while also featuring key characters, weapons, monsters, dungeon designs, and other memorable elements that defined the Solo Leveling series.

The biggest attraction, however, is the inclusion of previously unpublished material. Readers will get access to never-before-seen rough sketches created by legendary artist Jang Sung-rak, better known as DUBU, alongside behind-the-scenes stories and commentary from original novelist Chugong. The book also includes congratulatory messages from fellow artists who helped shape the webtoon’s history.

01

Solo Leveling’s protagonist is a Korean E-Rank hunter widely mocked at the start of the series as “the world’s weakest” — before a near-death experience in a double dungeon transforms him into the Player. Name him (Korean original).

02

Solo Leveling didn’t start as Japanese manga or anime. It originated in 2016 as a Korean web novel on KakaoPage, was adapted into a colourful vertical-scrolling webtoon (drawn by Jang Sung-rak / Dubu) and only later became an A-1 Pictures anime in 2024. What term describes its native Korean comic format?

03

The original Solo Leveling web novel ran from 2016 to 2018 on KakaoPage and was written under a single mononymous pen name. The author is famously private, with very little known about him — but he’s widely credited with single-handedly resetting global expectations for what Korean web fiction could be. Name him.

04

In Solo Leveling’s world, mysterious gates have appeared on Earth and only awakened “hunters” can enter the dungeons inside them. Hunters are evaluated by the Korean Hunter Association on a letter-grade scale from the lowest to the strongest. What rank does Sung Jinwoo start with, before becoming the Player?

05

After the Cartenon Temple double-dungeon massacre, Jinwoo wakes up in a hospital and begins seeing a personal RPG-style HUD that nobody else can see — daily quests, stat windows, level-ups, Notices written in glowing blue text. The franchise calls Jinwoo’s unique designation what?

06

The Solo Leveling anime adaptation premiered in January 2024 to record streaming numbers on Crunchyroll — the most-watched debut in the platform’s history. The animation studio is the same Aniplex-affiliated house behind Sword Art Online, 86 and Lycoris Recoil. Name it.

07

As Jinwoo levels up he unlocks the Shadow Extraction skill, which lets him raise the corpses of defeated foes as loyal shadow soldiers. The first major shadow soldier he raises — a red-armored knight extracted from the Job Change dungeon Knight Captain — becomes one of his signature fighters. Name him.

08

Late in the series, the System reveals that Jinwoo isn’t merely the Player — he’s the chosen successor of the dying ninth Monarch of the Shadows, who sided with the Rulers against the other eight Monarchs. Jinwoo inherits his title and his power. Name this previous Shadow Monarch whose mantle Jinwoo takes up.

Collectors have another reason to pay attention. First-print editions include a special lenticular Sung Jinwoo trading card as an exclusive bonus. Preorders are already available through Korean retailer Aladin Books, which is also holding a promotional event from July 14 through July 23, giving 50 customers the chance to receive 1,000 KRW in store credit. No English-language edition has been announced yet.

A Tribute To The Artist Behind Solo Leveling’s Success

The Art of Solo Leveling book bonus content D&C Media

The timing of the art book carries extra emotional weight. Its announcement comes just days before the fourth anniversary of DUBU’s passing on July 23, 2022. His stunning and unique artwork transformed Chugong’s original novel into a global phenomenon, helping Solo Leveling become one of the most influential webtoons ever created.

Many of the anime’s most iconic moments faithfully recreate DUBU’s original panels almost frame for frame. From Sung Jinwoo’s signature dagger stance to his intense battles against powerful dungeon bosses, the visual identity established in the manhwa became the blueprint for A-1 Pictures’ anime adaptation. That consistency played a major role in the Solo Leveling franchise’s worldwide popularity.

Although fans continue to wait for Solo Leveling: Ragnarok to resume publication and for the future release of Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, The Art of Solo Leveling offers an opportunity to revisit the series from a new perspective. Instead of simply collecting finished illustrations, the book explores the creative process behind one of the industry’s defining modern hits. Until Jinwoo’s story officially continues, August’s art book looks set to be the franchise’s biggest release and a fitting tribute to the artist whose work helped make Solo Leveling a global sensation.
