When it comes to exclusive Mobile Suit Gundam model kits, there’s no better place for exclusive sets than official stores. Now, the main hub of Gundam plastic model kits is releasing three clear takes on classic mobile suit designs.
As seen in previous releases, the Gundam Base stores’ exclusive kits will use translucent plastic to reimagine iconic mecha. These come from divergent timelines in the Gundam franchise, offering vastly different options for fans to collect. One of them is even based on perhaps the most famous Gundam anime in the West, with all three releasing this month.
Bandai Announces 3 Gundam Base Exclusives With New Transparent Model Kit Release
The official Gundam Base stores across the world regularly feature transparent, plastic model kits as exclusives, and the incoming kits are no exception. First among them is the HG 1/144 Z’Gok (SEED FREEDOM Ver.) [Clear Color], which is based on a version of an iconic clawed mecha seen in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom (part of the Cosmic Era timeline).
The upper body of this High Grade model kit is cast in a lighter clear plastic, whereas the lower body and limbs are a darker red. There are metallic molded parts for the joints and jetpack, with other options including the battle-damaged head and interchangeable super-heated claws. Like the previous release of the kit in the regular colors, some of the parts are also compatible with the HG Infinite Justice Gundam Type II.
Next is the FULL MECHANICS 1/100 Gundam Aerial [Clear Color] from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, with the newly-molded blue and white armor showcasing the internal workings of the collectible. Likewise, the beam rifle and the overall frame of the mecha highlight the mechanical/metallic parts, making the clear plastic really shine.
Along with the sword, shield and rifle of the original release, it also carries over the sliding leg synchronization that adjusts the movement of the knees and legs during certain poses. This is what separates the FULL MECHANICS collectibles from other Gunpla model kits.
Finally, the last of the trio is the MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW [Clear Color], which is based on one of the most iconic and recognizable mobile suits of them all. A Master Grade SD Gundam kit, it combines a diminutive super-deformed size with the detail expected of a larger Master Grade model kit. Once again, the clear plastic brings the internal parts to life like never before, giving a closer look at the inner details of the kit.
Given that it has essentially a skeletal frame that the armor is placed upon, it’s definitely a stand-out collectible in this regard. Based on the Wing Gundam Zero design from the OVA New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, it boasts both the organic Wing Binders that can envelop the kit, as well as the ability to transform into the jet-like Neo Bird mode. The Buster Rifle can also be split into two and deployed separately in this mode, or held as one weapon in the humanoid mode.
The HG 1/144 Z’Gok (SEED FREEDOM Ver.) [Clear Color] and FULL MECHANICS 1/100 Gundam Aerial [Clear Color] will be sold for around US$25 and $32, respectively, while the MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW [Clear Color] will be roughly US$36. Gundam Base stores will begin receiving the Z’Gok on July 11, with the other two coming in a week later on July 18.
