Flawless 100% Rated War Epic Is Officially One of the Biggest Shows on Streaming

One of the most underrated and explosive Second World War action series is officially one of the biggest shows on streaming right now. HBO’s Band of Brothers is undeniably the biggest WWII series ever made. The limited series put viewers on the front line of the Second World War, following Easy Company from 1942 to 1945. The series remained unrivaled in the TV space for years. But, in 2022, Peaky Blinders‘ creator Steven Knight stepped in to tell the (somewhat dramatized) story of one of WWII’s most important regiments. The series was a big hit with critics and audiences, and it has found a second life on streaming, as we all eagerly await Season 3.

Releasing on MGM+ (US) and on the BBC (UK), SAS: Rogue Heroes is rising up the streaming charts on the former. TV networks typically shy away from period war dramas due to the extensive budgets required to bring war-torn Europe and Africa to life on screen. But, SAS: Rogue Heroes doesn’t hold anything back. Add to that fantastic character-driven writing (we’d expect nothing less from Steven Knight) and fantastic performances from the entire cast (Sinners‘ Jack O’Connell is a scene-stealer), and it’s easy to see how Rogue Heroes earned its flawless 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. Season 3 is still a ways away, but Rogue Heroes remains a firm fan-favorite on the streaming charts. At the time of writing, the series has remained in MGM+’s weekly top 10 for over four months.

Debuting in 2022, SAS: Rogue Heroes depicts the founding of the SAS by Paddy Mayne (O’Connell) and David Stirling (Connor Swindells). Starting life as a deep parachute regiment in the Africa campaign, Season 2 sees the unit take the fight to Europe, beginning in Sicily, before moving forward to Germany. It’s as explosive and action-packed as it is heavy and emotional. The show also has a fantastic cast, which includes Alfie Allen, Sofia Boutella, Theo Barklem-Biggs, Dominic West, and Gwilym Lee, among many others.

‘Rogue Heroes’ Is the Highest-Rated WWII Series of All-Time

Band of Brothers might be the most well-known Second World War series on TV, but Rogue Heroes is the best (according to critics). As previously mentioned, Rogue Heroes has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To put that into perspective, Band of Brothers has a 94% rating, and Masters of the Air has an 85% rating. Even Steven Spielberg’s seminal Saving Private Ryan has a 94% rating.

The SAS Will Return for Season 3

Flawless 100% Rated War Epic Is Officially One of the Biggest Shows on Streaming

Much like Peaky Blinders, SAS: Rogue Heroes likes to leave things on a cliffhanger. Without delving too far into spoilers, Season 1 left Stirling’s fate in the hands of the enemy, and Season 2 has upped the ante even more. After facing their toughest battle yet, and battling their own inner demons, the SAS cleared through Sicily on the frontline, and will go back to being a parachute regiment. What’s more, they’ll be doing so in mainland Europe, taking the fight directly to Nazi Germany. Season 3 is currently in development. The show is expected to return to our screens sometime in late 2026. However, this hasn’t officially been confirmed.
