Released over four decades ago, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam was the first true sequel in the now-classic mecha anime franchise, cementing its place at the top of the genre and proving that Gundam could evolve beyond its original war story. Now, Bandai is unleashing a figure based on the main mech from the series, and this incredible collectible will certainly make fans believe in the sign of Zeta.
The Robot Spirits (SIDE MS) MSZ-006 Z Gundam ver. A.N.I.M.E. faithfully recreates the Zeta Gundam unit, with the design looking like it came right out of an episode of the anime. This includes the expected array of weapons and the “Wave Rider” transformation, with Zeta Gundam making this concept central to hero suits for the first time. Available now for pre-order, the action figure is expected to mobilize by early 2027.
Bandai Embraces the Sign of Zeta With New Gundam Action Figure
Bandai’s Robot Spirits (SIDE MS) MSZ-006 Z Gundam ver. A.N.I.M.E. is, unlike many of the franchise’s collectibles, an outright action figure instead of a Gundam plastic model kit. Utilizing modern engineering while still accurately recreating the classic animation model, it has an almost matte finish that makes it stand out when posed.
Given the extensive articulation, it’s easy to bring the scenes from the 1985 anime to life, especially given all the accessories and features. Along with four sets of interchangeable hands, the Zeta Gundam has its iconic Beam Rifle, a shield, two grenade launcher cartridges, two open grenade launcher covers, two saber grips and three Beam Saber effect parts (two straight ones and another that’s curved). There’s also an effect part for the Beam Rifle, allowing both of his weapons to burst with energy.
Easily the coolest feature, however, is the ability to transform into the Wave Rider, with this jet form instantly separating the mecha from mobile suits such as the classic RX-78-2 Gundam. There’s a frame for the transformation itself (which is somewhat achieved through “parts swapping,” as opposed to the conversion in Hasbro and Takara’s Transformers toys), as well as landing gear and an antenna.
Finally, the other added items are replacement flying armor base and a joint for a Tamashii Stage. Made from ABS and PVC, it stands at just over five inches in height, allowing it to be in scale with most Gundam model kits. Now available to pre-order for US$99.99 on sites such as BigBadToyStore, it’s currently scheduled to come out sometime between December 2026 and January 2027.
Since its 40th anniversary in 2025, there have been numerous new releases honoring Zeta Gundam, and this includes Gundam plastic model kits based on spinoffs of the classic Universal Century sequel.
