Whether it’s Omniscient Reader, Tomb Raider King, Pick Me Up, or Eleceed, Solo Leveling has many immediate rivals. Many of these webtoons also have their own anime adaptations in the works, ready to directly pit them against Solo Leveling and the massive franchise that it has grown into.
That said, even with the release of its sequel, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, one series has been quietly competing with Solo Leveling for the last six years, and it’s surprisingly an otome isekai manhwa. Villains Are Destined to Die continues to be one of KakaoPage’s biggest hits in recent years, even beating Solo Leveling’s sequel in terms of its popularity, readership, ratings, and accolades, and after six long years, the series has ended on a perfect high note.
Villains Are Destined to Die Has Ended After Six Years
Over six years after its debut on KakaoPage back in April 2020, Villains Are Destined to Die by SUOL and Gwon Gyeoeul has concluded its main story with Chapter #214 released on July 10, 2026. This chapter marks the end of Season 5 of the webtoon, which over the last few years has established itself as one of the most popular villainess manhwa.
The official English release of Villains Are Destined to Die on Tapas is currently only three chapters behind the official release, which means fans around the world can also catch the finale soon enough. To commemorate the end of the main story, SUOL, the series’ artist, has also shared an illustration of Callisto and Penelope together with a message for fans on her official X handle, which will also be added to the final chapter as an afterword.
The post by SUOL reads:
“An afterword has been added at the bottom of Chapter 214, the final chapter of the main story of the webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die. Thank you so much for staying with us for a long time since 2020. We will continue to visit you with other news related to Villains Are Destined to Die soon. I hope everyone stays healthy and happy. I love you!”
As implied in the message by the series’ artist, this is hardly the end for Villains Are Destined to Die. With the main story wrapped up, the manhwa will very likely return with an adaptation of the side stories after a brief hiatus. So far, the manhwa has adapted 230 chapters of the original web novel.
However, this main story is followed by 48 side story chapters in the web novel, which are all up for grabs for the manhwa to adapt. These side stories dive deeper into characters such as Derrick and Ivonne, besides also giving fans a much-needed, healthy dose of romance between Callisto and Penelope, which makes adapting the side stories a must for the manhwa.
Now’s The Perfect Time To Catch Up On The Best Modern Otome Isekai
All that said, with the main story having concluded at long last, there’s also no better time than right now to pick up Villains Are Destined to Die if you haven’t already, or catch up on the ending for that matter. The series hasn’t had a single weak moment in the last six years, and has kept up its tight pacing, consistently stunning artwork, strong and consistent characterization, and focused story.
If anything, Villains Are Destined to Die’s story has only gotten better with time, and that might explain why the series has maintained its perfect 10-star rating on KakaoPage even after all these years. Besides staying consistent in quality throughout, Villains Are Destined to Die has also delivered an incredibly well-written finale.
The final season of the series at last explained many of its oldest lingering mysteries, and following it up was a grand finale with a high-stakes showdown that was incredibly well-executed. All things considered, it’s no surprise that Villains Are Destined to Die even recently shared a major award with Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, and with its finale, the series can rightly be deemed one of the best modern otome isekai manhwa.
