Dark Souls’ Big Return Is Only 3 Months Away

After nearly a decade without a brand-new Dark Souls game, fans have grown accustomed to revisiting Lordran through remasters, replaying the trilogy, or exploring FromSoftware’s newer worlds. While there’s still no sign of Dark Souls 4, the franchise is finally making an official return later this year in a different format that expands its bleak fantasy universe.

Publisher Yen Press has confirmed that Dark Souls: Redemption, Vol. 3 will launch on September 22, 2026, putting the next chapter of the manga series just three months away. Although it isn’t the long-awaited video game sequel many players have hoped for, it is still the first major new Dark Souls release in over a year and continues one of the franchise’s few ongoing stories.

Written by Julien Blondel with artwork by Shonen, Dark Souls: Redemption, Vol. 3 picks up after the fragile alliance formed between a guardian, a keeper, and a hunter. The latest installment follows the trio as they continue through a dying world where even the smallest spark of hope struggles to survive against overwhelming darkness.

The manga leans heavily into the oppressive atmosphere that made the games famous. Rather than taking a lighter interpretation, the series embraces horror, despair, and the constant threat of extinction. The official synopsis hints that an even greater force is emerging from the shadows, one capable of extinguishing what little hope remains in the ash-covered world.

The paperback will retail for $15.00 USD in the United States and $19.50 CAD in Canada. Published by Yen Press, the volume contains 208 pages, carries an Older Teen age rating, and will be available in both physical and digital formats. While slightly shorter than its predecessors, it still delivers a substantial continuation of the ongoing narrative.

The Dark Souls: Redemption manga debuted in 2024, with Volume 2: Bonfire following in August 2025. The third volume arrives after another year-long wait, giving readers the first new chapter in the series since last summer. Whether the story will continue beyond Volume 3 remains unknown, as no fourth installment has been announced.

The manga occupies an interesting place within FromSoftware’s growing collection of adaptations. Unlike Elden Ring’s officially licensed manga, which surprised many readers with its comedic tone, Dark Souls: Redemption stays faithful to the grim atmosphere that defined the games. Its focus on monsters, ruined kingdoms, and relentless tragedy makes it feel much closer to the original source material.

Even so, the announcement is also a reminder of how long fans have waited for a new game. Dark Souls III launched in 2016, while Dark Souls Remastered followed in 2018. Since then, FromSoftware has shifted its attention toward projects like Elden Ring, leaving the Dark Souls universe largely dormant outside of books, comics, and tabletop adaptations. Until that changes, Dark Souls: Redemption, Vol. 3 will serve as the franchise’s biggest official release of 2026, giving longtime fans another chance to revisit one of gaming’s most influential fantasy worlds.
