Google Home Speaker setup is broken, but a fix is on the way

The Google Home Speaker made a splash towards the end of last month, being the first new stand-alone speaker from Google in nearly six years. So, you can imagine, folks were pretty excited to upgrade or buy the latest from the brand for their smart home experience.

But, like with any new product, the Home Speaker ran into some issues within its first few weeks out in the wild, like being slow and unresponsive in some scenarios. You’d think Google would have all of this down by now, but that’s never really the case.

Nothing is perfect

With that said, we’re now getting reports that the Home Speaker is once again giving new owners trouble. Reports are pouring in from Reddit, with folks sharing that they can’t even get their brand-new Home Speaker setup properly because the process failed at some point (via Android Authority).

Users are being asked to reset their devices to try again, but this doesn’t fix the issue. Luckily, Google has now chimed in, sharing that a new software update will be available to users, which should fix the problem. Google states that you can power cycle your device by unplugging it and plugging it in again to get the update immediately.

Or you can just choose to wait, with the update naturally being pushed to all devices within 24 hours. While it’s not a huge issue, small hiccups like these are what really make or break the experience. If you’re someone that has just purchased this device, and you’re not browsing the internet for a solution to the problem or reading tech sites that report on them, then you’d be completely out of luck.

You’d just end up returning it because there isn’t an easy way to get answers. While the Google Home Speaker is a pretty good unit, some have chosen to stick with older models because it’s just a better experience. Of course, for $100, the Home Speaker isn’t bad, it’s just that some might find a speaker with a screen more useful.

If you already have a Google Home Speaker in your possession, and are experiencing setup problems, grab the update so you can get it working right.
