Bethesda has outlined the future of the Fallout franchise, as the company has confirmed that Fallout 5 is in development, and that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are on the way.
Fallout fans have been shocked by Bethesda’s apathy towards the franchise in recent years, as the Fallout TV show has been a smash hit across both seasons, yet no new games have been released, and beloved older entries are still locked to older platforms. The fact that Fallout 3 and New Vegas aren’t available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 is criminal, especially considering there’s a fresh audience that’s come over from the TV show that’s never played them before.
Fallout 5 Is On The Way
In the wake of the mass layoffs across various Xbox gaming divisions, a statement has been released on the official Bethesda website, outlining the company’s future projects. These include more content for Starfield in 2027, The Elder Scrolls 6 continuing to exist, and most importantly, Fallout 5 is now in preproduction.
The fact that Fallout 5 is only in preproduction means that the game is still years off, and likely won’t launch until after The Elder Scrolls 6 hits store shelves. It’s still exciting to learn that the game is on the way, and that Bethesda is trucking ahead with it, as it’s been far too long since gamers experienced some amazing Fallout titles, the kind that made the franchise a household name.
Fallout 3 & New Vegas Are Being Remastered
The good news for Fallout fans just keeps coming, as Bethesda finally confirmed that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are being remastered for modern platforms. Sadly, there’s no release window, but these will likely launch before Fallout 5, as remastering an older title is much easier than making a whole new one.
Hopefully, the Fallout remasters will be of the same quality as The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion one, with overhauled visuals and annoying bugs finally fixed, but with the same gameplay intact. Fallout 3 was one of the finest RPGs of its era, while Fallout: New Vegas is one of the greatest of all time, and their return on modern platforms is way overdue. It’s a shame that the layoffs at Microsoft likely prompted these announcements, but at least Bethesda is focusing on what fans want, and what will help the studio survive.
