The upcoming Creepshow game from PHL Collective and DreadXP just keeps getting creepier, and fans will love it.
Developer PHL Collective and publisher DreadXP have unveiled early in-game B-roll footage from Creepshow showcasing exactly what kind of terror-fueled point-and-click experience players can look forward to this August. More importantly, the footage shows just how much effort was put into ensuring the title oozes Creepshow‘s unmistakable horror aesthetic even during its most innocuous turns.
Creepshow Is Everything Fans Could Want In an Adventure-Horror Game
Inspired by the hit horror anthology series from Greg Nicotero and Shudder, which itself served as a continuation of the 1982 classic by George A. Romero and Stephen King, the upcoming Creepshow game will give fans the chance to dive into and (hopefully) emerge unscathed from multiple tales of terror. As noted by the official game description, “The humor is dark, and the endings are… not what you expected.”
The game description continues, “Follow Danny and his friends as a bad day at the mall turns into something much, much worse. Their search for the truth of what happened to Danny’s father turns dark as they uncover sinister secrets. Fate brings Danny to The Reader, a mysterious fortune-teller who has a taste for treacherous tales… The horror here isn’t just trying to scare you… It’s about enjoying the whole thing a little too much.”
While each individual chapter of Creepshow will feature the same basic point-and-click setup, the gameplay throughout is set to be just as varied as the different stories and settings gamers will venture through. All of these narratives will be drenched in the gleefully grim pop aesthetic that helped the Creepshow franchise become such an immediate horror sensation in the first place, much to the delight (or dread) of fans.
DreadXP founder and CEO Patrick Ewald previously said of the title, “Getting to publish the iconic Creepshow brand as a game has been a creative dream we don’t want to wake up from, and we think it’s going to pull a whole new audience into the Creep’s tent. The teams at AMC, PHL, and DreadXP have put a lot of work in to create something that genuinely feels like you are living (or dying) inside a Creepshow episode, and we can’t wait for fans, old and new, to play it.”
The upcoming game isn’t the first time that the Shudder series has been adapted for another medium. Since its release, Creepshow has received the comic book treatment courtesy of Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment. In March, the latest ongoing anthology arrived in the form of Super Creepshow, which offers readers some truly twisted tales inspired by some of the most beloved and iconic superheroes of all time and crafted by some of the industry’s most acclaimed creators.
Creepshow from PHL Collective and DreadXP is slated to arrive on Steam this August.
