Sad news reaches us from the world of music today, July 9, 2026, following the announcement that Welsh music legend Bonnie Tyler has passed away aged 75. The singer was best known for her incredible hits throughout the ’70s and ’80s, and many of her songs featured on some of the best movie soundtracks of all time, including “Holding out for a Hero,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and “Here She Comes,” to name a few. Those who love movies like Shrek 2, the 1984 remaster of Metropolis, and Footloose will definitely be familiar with Tyler’s discography.
As confirmed in a statement on the singer’s official website, as well as several other news outlets, including the BBC, Tyler passed away “unexpectedly” in a hospital in Portugal, “as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” last night, July 8. This comes following Tyler waking from a medically induced coma last month, which was done in order to help her recover after receiving emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal. At this time, there has been no confirmation as to what Tyler’s illness was, but it is known to be the cause of her death. Our respects go out to the friends and family of Bonnie Tyler at this time.
This is a developing story…
