As the DC Universe is set to feature a new Batman in James Gunn’s franchise, several actors have continued to be rumored for the major gig.
While Robert Pattinson will continue playing the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds-based universe, the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” will have its own Dark Knight, set in the same world as the other Justice League icons. However, even though the Gotham City hero has made brief cameos through Creature Commandos, his live-action debut in Gunn’s continuity has yet to happen.
Tom Brittney, who was one of the final candidates for Superman before David Corenswet landed the role, has been highly rumored to be eyed to play Batman in The Brave and The Bold. The star recently appeared on Fox5 (via DC Film News) where he was directly asked if there were any truths to those reports, as he shared the following: “I know nothing about this, [it is ] a crazy rumor! [laughs] No comment. I know nothing. Just lovely wonderful rumors.”
While DC Studios has not responded to the latest DCU rumors surrounding Brittney as Batman, the co-CEO has spoken openly about loving the actor’s work. Even though he didn’t get tapped as Krypton’s last son, Gunn shared on Threads back in November 2024 that “Tom is truly one of my favorite actors. Incredibly talented guy,” when confirming that both Corenswet and the British star accidentally got Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel suit “torn to shreds.”
The latest rumblings began in late June when YouTuber John Campea began claiming that he “knew” the name of who the DCU was looking to tap as the DCU’s Batman. He claimed on The John Campea Show that “I think I know who the DCU Batman is, I think they’ve cast him,” after speaking to a source who is “well-positioned” and “verified” with the host that “it looks like this is the guy” who has supposedly been cast.
The only clue Campea dropped at the time was, “I’m not going to say it right now, but I will say this. It’s not a name I would have guessed. I don’t think it’s a bad name, but it’s not a name I would have guessed.” However, he has later claimed that three names are supposedly rumored for the major part.
