Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow Officially Returns in War for Westeros

Game of Thrones is a name that has lived in infamy since its disastrous eighth and final season, with one of the biggest critiques of the season being its handling of one of its central protagonists, Jon Snow. Now, Jon has been given the chance to redeem himself, as he’s returning to fight for Westeros once again.

As fans continue to enjoy House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Houses, Game of Thrones: War For Westeros looms over the horizon. With an official trailer shown off at Summer Game Fest, this title is doing what it can to salvage the GoT name, and is forcing Jon Snow to face the Night King once again.

Like Dragonfire, War For Westeros is an upcoming Game of Thrones video game. Developed and published by Playside, War For Westeros is a tactical strategy game intentionally meant to be very similar to the Total War series.

“Classic real-time strategy in the world of Westeros,” the official description begins. “Conquer the Seven Kingdoms solo, or in treacherous free-for-all multiplayer. Command the Great Houses, rally iconic heroes, and rewrite the fate of the realm.”

“Do you have the strength to seize the Iron Throne? In War for Westeros, chaos reigns in ruthless free-for-all battles where trust is fleeting and power is everything. Command the Great Houses in epic real-time strategy battles, forge strategic alliances, or weave deceit against your rivals.”

A strategy game suits the politically-driven world of Westeros, where battles are nearly always won through superior tactics. At the same time, the game boasts cinematic visuals, which have already been revealed to be giving fans something they’ve long-wanted for Jon Snow.

The game’s reveal trailer showed Jon Snow directly fighting the Night King, a clash that was built up for a decade, but never properly took place. Instead, Game of Thrones aimed to subvert expectations by having Jon’s favorite sibling, Arya Stark, be the one to deliver the killing blow to the series’ fantastical big bad.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Game of Thrones fans are ecstatic to finally see this battle take place, and to experience all that War For Westeros has to offer.

“Just seeing Jon fight the Night King felt like justice for S8,” one fan wrote in a YouTube comment.

“The fight between Night King and Jon Snow looks epic here. It is what the show should’ve been instead of the disappointment we got,” another said.

In War For Westeros, players will be able to lead the armies of House Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen, and even take control of the Night King himself and lead his army of the dead. Every faction will have its own advantages and disadvantages to work around, and the real joy of the game will come from being able to craft entirely new scenarios, and alter events from the fixed timeline of the controversial television series.
