Square Enix is officially releasing a brand-new Chrono Trigger merchandise collection. These new items follow a wave of collectibles that were released for the franchise’s 30th anniversary last year, but unfortunately, fans are still waiting for a Chrono Trigger remake.
Originally released for the SNES in 1995, Chrono Trigger is frequently hailed as one of the best RPGs ever made and has even been called one of the greatest video games of all time. Although Chrono Trigger has received many ports, including a version on Steam, fans hoping for a new Chrono Trigger release will have to content themselves with new merch for the time being.
Chrono Trigger Personal Markers Are Available to Purchase Now
On March 27, Square Enix released the Chrono Trigger: One Mark Collection. These are keychains/bookmarks based on the game’s character sprites, with two per character, plus a fifteenth “mystery” marker. This marks a rare piece of Chrono Trigger merchandise that depicts the individual characters, meaning players can finally own their favorite heroes and anti-heroes in plastic form.
Unfortunately, the Chrono Trigger: One Mark Collection is currently exclusive to Japan, and even then, they’re random drops through gashapon machines. This means the only hope fans in North America and Europe have is the second-hand market, assuming Square Enix doesn’t bring them to other countries in the future.
Last year, Square Enix celebrated Chrono Trigger‘s 30th anniversary with an orchestra concert celebrating the game’s iconic soundtrack. The company also released a deluxe vinyl box set with artwork from the late Akira Toriyama. While this merch is definitely appreciated by fans, many are hoping for a bigger celebration in the future.
A Chrono Trigger Remake Could Be On the Way
Square Enix has yet to make any official statements regarding aChrono Trigger remake, and while there have been hints that Yuji Horii,Chrono Trigger‘s Scenario Writer, wants to bring it back, a remake has yet to be officially announced.Chrono Trigger‘s 30th anniversary happened in 2025, which would have been the perfect time to announce a remake, and none was made.
That being said, it’s not as if Square Enix is devoted to anniversaries. Most people expected the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake to be announced in 2025, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, but nothing was said. Recent rumors have suggested that the FF9 remake is currently on ice, but Square Enix may still come back to the project and release it in the near future.
Chrono Trigger fans will be excited about a remake announcement regardless of what year it’s revealed, so it’s definitely possible that Square Enix has something in the works. Square Enix’s 2026 release calendar is currently pretty light, so even if a Chrono Trigger remake doesn’t get announced soon, it’s likely that the company has some big things in store.
