Oracle Of Ages & Seasons Switch 2 Remake Unites Gamers

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages are a fascinating set of games, and have earned the respect of The Legend of Zelda fans since their release. Originally debuting just a few years after the “Red and Blue”– style Pokémon games, these two distinct adventures can link up to form a “true ending.”

It also came at a crossroads for both the industry and the Zelda series. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, Nintendo had already begun experimenting with 3D adventures, starting with Ocarina of Time in 1998. After that, many of those mainline 3D releases would eclipse the launches of several portable games, including the Oracle pair.

Although the originals are thankfully available on the Switch Virtual Console, fans want a lot more. Over on Reddit, a remake has people united.

As user BPViridian kicks off the discussion, fans are all saying the same thing about a potential Oracle of Seasons and Ages remake project: “They already have a beautiful and functional engine, capable of reimaginings of the past as well as unique stories such as Echoes of Wisdom. I was always a huge fan of the Oracle games, as i never owned them and only played them when borrowed from schoolmates.”

At this point, people just want it to happen in any capacity: “I would love a full, modern remake. Any art style is fine with me. I briefly played one of them, and it was fine, but it’s just held back by being on the GBC. Had some neat ideas, too, including being able to fight melee with fists.”

Other folks are game, but want significant alterations, including a more fleshed-out “third story” once the two are completed: “I’d actually get pretty hyped for that, especially if they rounded out the third story. I don’t know any good reasons why they wouldn’t, having done all the LAHD assets and such. But that doesn’t mean they will.”

Even with all the support these remakes have, some fans aren’t holding out hope: “I don’t see it happening because it requires the work of remaking 2 full-sized games, but it’s unlikely for most people to buy 2 extremely similar full-price Zeldas at the same time. They’d eat into eachother’s sales. But it would also be insane to remake only one of them. And 4 total games in that art style might be a little overkill. I also think Grezzo is probably done with remakes going forward. They’re probably just the new 2d Zelda team now.”

One commenter points out that there shouldn’t be any major legal hurdles to cross as well: “Nintendo is publisher and whole owner of everything in these games. It also wasn’t an in-house [Capcom] team. It was mostly Flagship, a developer funded by Nintendo, Capcom and SEGA.”

Even if we don’t get a Zelda remake of Oracle of Seasons and Ages anytime soon, for anyone who enjoys the franchise, it’ll always be at the back of their minds.
