There are smartphones with e-ink displays and while they are great for reading, Android just wasn’t designed with slow refresh rate speeds in mind. What can be done about it? Well, e-ink panels are getting faster and faster, but they still aren’t “there” yet. So, Hisense had an alternative solution in mind.
And so it built the Hisense A10. On its front is a 6.13” e-ink panel, similar to what you would find on a Kindle ebook reader. The solution comes in the form of a detachable LCD that you can magnetically snap on the back of the phone.
Right now, the exact specifics of this add-on screen are not known. However, we do know that it will be sold separately.
The Hisense A10 without the LCD and with the LCD add-on
The Hisense A10 hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but it is apparently a 5G phone that runs Android 16. It is powered by an unnamed 4nm Snapdragon chipset.
The Hisense A10 will cost CNY 4,000 ($590) on its own (i.e. without the add-on LCD). The LCD might be quite expensive, though, possibly costing as much as CNY 3,000 ($440).
By the way, Bigme recently had a similar idea – last week it put up a Kickstarter for the Bigme Hibreak Dual 2. It has a 6.13” e-ink display on one side and an integrated (non-removable) 5” LCD on the other side.
