Two fan-favorite LEGO designs based on Sailor Moon‘s beloved 1992 anime failed to cross the finish line in the latest round of LEGO Ideas submissions. Despite each proposal clearing the 10,000-supporter threshold required to guarantee a review, LEGO collectors had their Sailor Moon dreams dashed with the official announcement that the popular designs had been rejected.
The unfortunate news arrives with the announcement of 68 submissions rejected in the third and final LEGO Ideas review of 2025. Although LEGO has scrapped the fan-made recreations of Sailor Moon’s Moon Stick and the Inner Guardians, their creators still have the chance to refine and resubmit their designs for another chance at getting them approved for production.

Image via LEGO IdeasBased on fan support for the LEGO Ideas submissions, it’s obvious that the idea of an official Sailor Moon LEGO set is an exciting prospect for collectors. It’s also easy to see why Sailor Moon remains one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world. Created in the 1990s by Naoko Takeuchi, Sailor Moon sits at the pinnacle of nostalgia after three decades of flourishing success.
The two Sailor Moon designs that were rejected in the final LEGO Ideas review of 2025 perfectly capitalize on that nostalgia. The first submission from the creator named “MYS have a table” recreates Sailor Moon’s iconic weapon, the powerful Moon Stick. Choosing such a significant item from the series to recreate is a choice that got fans excited to put the power of Moon Prism Power, Make Up! right in their hands.

Image via LEGO IdeasThe second rejected design is a set that recreates all five classic Inner Guardians who fight at Sailor Moon’s side. The set of five figures totals 2,416 pieces altogether in the LEGO designs for Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter. Luna the cat, a tiny Moon Stick and a stylized Sailor Moon sign are also included.
While these rejections are unfortunate news for Sailor Moon fans, plenty of other LEGO Ideas submissions based on animated franchises also failed to make the cut. Avatar: The Last Airbender, KPop Demon Hunters, Scooby-Doo and SpongeBob were among those not selected in the latest review.
If (or when) a Sailor Moon x LEGO collaboration does drop, the world will know. In the meantime, Sailor Moon fans recently received great news upon the announcement that the first new full-sized Sailor Moon pin design in nearly three years is set for an exclusive debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Even without a sparkly new Sailor Moon LEGO set on the horizon, there’s still plenty to look forward to from the franchise in the years to come.
