Rebecca Ferguson’s New Sci-Fi Thriller Is Already a Global Streaming Hit

Rebecca Ferguson’s hit sci-fi thriller is back with its third season, and it’s already one of the biggest shows on streaming, despite some divisive reviews. Apple TV is responsible for giving us some of the best sci-fi shows in recent years. Severance‘s accolades and fandom require no explanation, while adaptations of Foundation and Murderbot were both big hits. But, it’s Apple’s other big sci-fi adaptation, which already has two immensely successful seasons under its belt, that can’t stop winning on the streaming charts, even if not everybody loves the new season.

After debuting on Jul 3, Season 3 of Silo is another massive hit for Apple TV. The new season sees Juliette Nichols return to her original Silo, having no memory of her time on the outside. Two episodes of Season 3 can currently be streamed on Apple TV, with new episodes released weekly on Fridays. In just two episodes, Silo is already the biggest series on Apple TV right now, stealing the number one spot on the weekly streaming charts (both in the US and globally). Sitting close behind it in second is Cape Fear, with the fifth season of Trying in third. Apple TV doesn’t release exact viewership figures as Netflix does, but given that Silo has already been renewed for a fourth and final season, it’s clearly raking in the views for Apple TV.

Based on the series of novels by Hugh Howey, the series was adapted for TV by Graham Yost. Rebecca Ferguson plays Juliette Nichols, with a fantastic supporting cast, including Tim Robbins, Steve Zahn, Rashida Jones, Harriet Walter, Ian Glen, Common, Tanya Moodie, Jessica Henwick, David Oyelowo, and Ashley Zukerman.

‘Silo’ Season 3 Is Dividing Fans

Much like its first two seasons, Silo Season 3 stormed out of the gate with a fantastic Rotten Tomatoes score and a strong start on the streaming charts. Season 3 holds a flawless 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. That would be an impressive feat if it weren’t for the drastically lower audience rating. Season 3 of Silo holds a 58% audience rating from its first two episodes. Needless to say, that’s quite divisive.

So why is Season 3 tearing fans apart? There are many who are giving Season 3 five-star ratings, applauding the continued character-focused writing and the ongoing sci-fi mystery. Although a fair few take issue with the direction of Season 3, especially regarding Juliette. Amnesia stories are incredibly hard to pull off effectively, and a lot of RT users feel like it has set the series back phenomenally. “The concept of giving the main character amnesia should have been laughed out of the writing room. It’s a drastic bad turn for this show,” wrote one RT user.

As well as giving us more mysteries in the Silo, the show’s third season is also the beginning of the end for the series. Following Season 2, the series was renewed for two more seasons, with Season 4 being the last one ever. You never know, the show might follow suit of every other big IP in modern TV history and release countless spin-offs (we’re looking at you, Yellowstone). But, at the time of writing, Silo‘s fourth season will be the last we’ll ever see of Juliette Nichols.
