In a newly released teaser trailer, Gohan Beast unleashes his absolute strongest attack in Dragon Ball Super, and it’s the very same move that killed his father.
In anticipation for the release of Issue 11, its latest line of trading cards, the Japanese arcade game Dragon Ball Super Divers has been releasing trailers depicting the animations for the newest character coming to the game. July 8’s reveal was that of Gohan Beast, who is shown in his animation trailer utilizing the signature attack of his first martial arts master, Piccolo.
That special move, Makankosappo (also known as Special Beam Cannon), is both the move Gohan Beast uses against Cell Max in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and also the move that Piccolo uses to kill both Goku and Raditz during DBZ’s Saiyan Saga.
Gohan Beast’s Special Beam Cannon Cuts Through the Competition in New Dragon Ball Super Divers Trailer
Dragon Ball Super Divers’ new trailer is a short, animated demonstration of what players will see when they scan Gohan Beast’s new God Rare card into the game. The animation depicts Gohan utilizing his Special Beam Cannon to obliterate Cell Max, just like in Dragon Ball Super’s “Super Hero” arc.
While Gohan Beast might’ve repopularized the Special Beam Cannon for modern Dragon Ball fans, he’s far from the move’s originator. The Special Beam Cannon technique first debuted in Dragon Ball Chapter 200, “Piccolo’s Farewell to Arms!?” In it, Piccolo fires the attack for the first time, but it’s later revealed in the next chapter that Raditz dodges it.
It wouldn’t be until Dragon Ball Chapter 203, “Sayonara Goku,” that Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon would finally connect with an opponent for the first time, piercing the bodies of both Goku and Raditz and killing both in the process. Special Beam Cannon is truly one of Dragon Ball‘s most devastating attacks, and it’s made even more powerful in the hands of a prodigal fighting genius like Gohan.
Gohan Beast Is Seeing a New Surge in Popularity Thanks to the Dragon Ball Video Game Series
Dragon Ball Super Divers is an arcade game only available in Japan that blends cardass trading cards with video gaming to provide a more immersive experience. Players can scan up to seven character cards they’ve collected at a time to join their player avatar in battle. From there, players are prompted to stop a meter on screen, and the player who stops the meter at the highest value gets to utilize the attacks of their chosen character cards.
While Dragon Ball Super Divers is definitely a game that’s all about timing, having powerful cards like that of Gohan Beast can make all the difference in an evenly matched fight.
Gohan Beast has certainly been a game-changer for Dragon Ball video games recently. Another recent Gohan Beast animation released for Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle went viral online due to the sheer quality of the 2D animation used in the trailer, especially since Gohan Beast had yet to be animated in 2D prior to this reveal.
Now that the Dragon Ball Super anime is being remade starting with the Beerus Saga, it’s more likely than ever that 2D Gohan Beast will finally make it into a full anime season.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is scheduled to release this fall.
