The original Mobile Suit Gundam was the birth of the Universal Century timeline, but it and its sequels aren’t the only entries in this universe. There’s also a plethora of nearly countless spinoffs and side stories, with an impressive mecha from one of these works being made available once more.
The MG Ex-S Gundam/S Gundam (Task Force Alpha Ver.) was first released over a year ago, with the Premium Bandai kit quickly making the rounds and selling out. Sporting two different configurations, it boasts even more weapons and tech, making for a bulky, imposing mobile suit. Fans now have another chance to collect the kit, which reflects its popularity amid demands for it to be re-released after just over a year.
An Epic Gundam Sentinel Kit Is Finally Being Re-Released by Bandai After 1 Year
The MG Ex-S Gundam/S Gundam (Task Force Alpha Ver.) won the Premium Bandai Gunpla General Election 2025 poll a year ago, with the contest looking at different collectibles that fans wanted Bandai to re-release. Having already been released and sold out in the same year, it speaks to just how popular the often overlooked design was in Master Grade model kit form.
The kit is based on two mecha from Gundam Sentinel — a photo-novel side story set between the events of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and its sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. As the name suggests, the model kit is modular and can be displayed either as the traditional S Gundam or the more heavily armored Ex-S Gundam. The mecha can even transform into its G-Cruiser mode, easily one of the more impressive and convincing alternate modes in the Gundam franchise (especially compared to forms such as the Neo Bird Mode of the Wing Gundam).
The Beam Smart Gun has similar functionality, featuring both a standard form and a rapid-fire incarnation. Likewise, the Beam Sabers can be stored in boxes on the knees (matching a detail in the photo novel source material), while there are Beam Cannons on both the hips and the shoulders. Finally, water-slide decals create a further opportunity to customize the returning collectible, meaning that the finished product is truly up to what the builder desires.
Pre-orders for the re-release are now open through Premium Bandai, with the Master Grade model kit priced at around US$116. It’s currently scheduled to ship out in September 2026, well over a year after it originally came out. This is both one of many recent Gundam plastic model kit re-releases and one of the many releases for more obscure entries in the franchise, with spinoffs set in the Universal Century continuity and the similarly popular Cosmic Era timeline becoming frequent favorites among collectors.
