Evangelion Makes Its Debut in New Mecha Action Figure Series With Unit-01

Neon Genesis Evangelion has been represented by numerous collectibles over the years, with many of these lines also home to other mecha anime brands. Now, the series is set to headline a brand-new line that excellently recreates a recent cinematic design for the anime’s main mecha.

Rebuild of Evangelion Carbotix Evangelion Test Type Unit-01 (Standard Ver.) is a new figure made by Blitzway, a South Korean toy developer that’s already making it big in the collectibles game. As the first toy for the franchise in the series, it’s the initial showcase of the design style that the line will feature as its bread and butter.

Coming with all the accessories that fans would expect, it’s the perfect addition to any Evangelion collection, though it will be a while before fans can get their own.

Shinji Ikari’s Main Mecha from Evangelion Is the First Carbotix EVA Toy

Blitzway’s Evangelion Test Type Unit-01 (Standard Ver.) is the first Neon Genesis Evangelion toy in the company’s Carbotix series, which has already made a splash by featuring other notable mecha such as Mazinger Z. Now, it’s expanding with a take on the classic EVA Unit-01, albeit the variant seen in the Rebuild of Evangelion reboot movies.

Featuring all the detail and specifications that are already expected of the series, it boasts around 60 points of articulation while standing at over a foot in height. Constructed from ABS, POM, PVC and metal, it’s extremely durable while maintaining the otherwise lithe form needed to accurately recreate action scenes from the anime. This fidelity to the screen design and the attention to quality also mean that the movement gaps in the joints are as small as possible, creating uninterrupted body lines from each angle.

Of course, fans can also expect the mecha’s arsenal to be in play, with these including several EVA unit staples. The weaponry ranges from the classic Pallet Rifle and two Progressive Knives to the Spear of Cassius, along with an Evangelion Restraint/Transport Platform Base that emulates the mech being launched.

Other accessories include an Entry Plug, a precision tweezer, a magnetic stick and 11 sets of interchangeable hands. Glowing in the dark and even UV reactive, the figure can light up its LED eyes with two SR621SW batteries (not included). It’s perhaps the ultimate toy for the mecha design, which is ironic given that the Carbotix series is still something of an up-and-comer.

Now available to pre-order on websites such as BigBadToyStore for around $289.99, it’s sadly not scheduled to come out until January 2027. This will mark 20 years after the release of the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie, which retold and eventually radically altered the story of the classic Neon Genesis Evangelion anime.
