CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski today revealed that Lords of the Fallen II will now release early 2027.
Another one bites the dust. The 2026 holiday season has shaped up to be quite packed for games. Not only is Grand Theft Auto VI launching this November, but other releases have packed themselves into the months beforehand. With heavy-hitting titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 among others, all competing for mindshare, it’s not too surprising that many titles are opting to wait till 2027 for launch. As such, given the crowded calendar and the looming shadow of Grand Theft Auto VI, Lords of the Fallen II moving to early 2027 isn’t much of a shock.
Lords of the Fallen’s all-round impressive design is marred by occasional technical issues and all-too-frequent questions on its very philosophy.
A Smart Delay
CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm the delay. In his statement, Tyminski admitted that the game will benefit from avoiding the packed schedule this holiday season. This should, hopefully, give the title the attention the team hopes it garners. On a more positive note, Tyminski also noted that this delay will allow his team to further polish and refine the game:
“As development progresses, we have worked closely with the Gameplay Feedback Team, a dedicated group of seasoned Souls-like veterans within our Launch Creative Team. Their valuable ongoing input, combined with the team’s vision, has identified meaningful opportunities to further refine and strengthen the overall experience. These enhancements will benefit from additional integration, iteration, and polishing time, enabling the team to deliver the highest possible quality at launch.”
Considering that Lords of the Fallen suffered from technical and performance issues at launch, a delay for further polishing and refinement sounds like a great idea. Taken altogether, this delay might be one of the smartest things CI Games could do to ensure Lords of the Fallen II receives its best shot at a successful launch.
Out of the Holiday Fire, Into the Wintery Snow
Lords of the Fallen II has escaped what’s shaped up to be a packed holiday season. September features heavy-hitters like The Blood of the Dawnwalker, Marvel’s Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. October is equally as packed with the likes of Rayman Legends Retold, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, Gears of War: E-Day, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Final Fantasy Resonance, Nintendo Switch Sports Reost, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade Zero. Then, finally, in November lies Grand Theft Auto VI.
Taken altogether, this delay might be one of the smartest things CI Games could do to ensure Lords of the Fallen II receives its best shot at a successful launch.
Of course, Lords of the Fallen II will still need to compete against other early 2027 games, many of which were also delayed to avoid this holiday’s onslaught. January features Stranger Than Heaven and Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold. Meanwhile, February features Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039. Certainly not as packed as the holiday 2026, but still many heavy hitters to contend with should Lords of the Fallen II launch in either January or February. There’s always a chance that some other titles might also abandon their 2026 release for 2027.
Of course, we’re still waiting for that release date. Lords of the Fallen II is planned for a Q1 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. We’ll let you know when CI Games formally unveils Lords of the Fallen II’s new release date.
