It’s easy to see why people like Jujutsu Kaisen. The idea of a shonen set against the backdrop of demonic forces is going to garner an audience on its own, but there’s a distinct sense of style in how the show carries itself. It’s no wonder that it’s been running in anime form since 2020, with the fourth season currently in production amid several side projects.
It looks like the busy series is going to be doing another collaboration this week, too. Thanks to a report from CBR, we now know the show is officially returning as part of a crossover event.
Jujutsu Kaisen is being reincarnated in an unlikely place. Later this month, on July 14, the series will cross over with the mobile game Monster Strike as part of a collaboration. Monster Strike is a force in its own right, having been in operation since 2013 on mobile devices.
As a physics-based freemium game, it differs from the avalanche of Match-Threes on the platform, and has amassed millions of players along the way. At one time, it was considered the most successful mobile game in the world, which led to a cross-media franchise push from the creators.
This is the third time Jujutsu Kaisen has been included, and the upcoming season will incorporate elements from Culling Game Part 1. Culling Game Part 1, also known as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, just wrapped up in March of this year and is the most recent airing of the show. Season 4 (Culling Game Part 2) is in the works. In other words, this collaboration is essentially getting everyone up to speed on the show. Beast transformations are in, as are expanded characters like Panda and Reggie Star.
Jujutsu Kaisen is still relatively young for a shonen anime. With many of them lasting decades (and in the case of Dragon Ball, roughly half a century), there are still going to be plenty of opportunities for crossovers and appearances in games like Fortnite. Given that the show is still running, it has a nice crossover with Demon Slayer, which is also enjoying a massive run off the first part of the film trilogy.
If you’re a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, you may want to give Monster Strike a look. It’s been around for over a decade and has multiple spinoffs, an anime, and multiple films.
