New Nintendo Switch 2 Model Officially Launches Fall 2027

New Nintendo Switch 2 Model Officially Launches Fall 2027

The next Nintendo Switch 2 model has been announced, and it’s launching way faster than fans anticipated. Nintendo’s new Switch 2 officially has a Fall 2026 release window, with a new line of controllers set to hit store shelves in 2027.

June 2026 marked the first anniversary of the Nintendo Switch 2’s release, and while the console is more powerful than its predecessor, fans already saw room for improvement. The biggest issue with the Nintendo Switch 2 is the battery life, and the new model may actually be powerful enough to handle games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

A New Nintendo Switch 2 Model With a Replaceable Battery Is Coming Soon

Europe has introduced new legislation regarding electronic devices that require them to have replaceable batteries, and Nintendo has to comply with the ruling. The official Nintendo support website has confirmed that a new iteration of the Switch 2 is coming in Autumn 2026, one that meets the new European standard.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 model will have a replaceable battery, one which should add a great deal to the system’s longevity. The trade-off is that the new battery roughly holds 1% less charge than the one in the existing Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, and the system as a whole weighs 10g heavier. These are relatively minor detriments, and having a console where a busted battery can easily be switched out is worth switching out for the newer model.

It’s not just the Nintendo Switch 2 that’s receiving new models, as all the official controllers will also have replaceable battery iterations. Winter 2026 will see new Joy-Cons, which are around 2g heavier each, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, which is 7g lighter and is roughly 16% smaller.

In early 2027, there will be a new Nintendo 64 controller, which is around 1g heavier, and a GameCube controller, which is 5g heavier and has a battery that’s around 5% larger. Nintendo has also confirmed that the new Switch 2 model is exclusively coming to countries in Europe, as well as the United Kingdom, with a gradual rollout planned.

The models will also be available in places where Nintendo of Europe does business, like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There’s no word regarding the new Nintendo Switch 2 model coming to the United States of America, but if a revised version of the system arrives in the future (one similar to the OLED Switch), then it’s likely that all regions will receive the same design.
